3/05/2013: Marin County Pharmacists Association Meeting - San Rafael
On Tuesday, March 5, 2013 we had a great time in San Rafael at Marin County Pharmacists Association (MCPhA)'s evening meeting where they had us on their agenda for introductions to help re-boot REPhA! What a great bunch of people, and are they excited about our group! We are thrilled that MCPhA wants to co-host many CEs and events with us in the future!. Please follow-along with MCPhA, one of the most active and progressive clubs in CPhA, and become active in any one of the many great projects they are working on, from teen outreach programs to public health fairs all around the entire Bay Area!
At their meeting, some of the great things they discussed were their Community Disaster Preparedness program, where they are creating the infrastructure and policies to help take of patients and their emergent medication needs while at disaster shelters in the event of a disaster. Make sure you and your loved ones always carry a list of current medications, along with their doses/directions in your wallet just in case! They spoke about the upcoming National Drug Take Back Program (held twice a year) where participating police stations take back unwanted medications to avoid diversion and water pollution. It is coming up April 27, so make sure you tell your patients and maybe even post some signage that list the participating take-back sites (which can be found via google). There was discussion about the Marin Immunization Coalition, and funding and other help is being sought to help create a videa to educate parents on childhood immunizations. There was talk about the activity in the Teenage Outreach area, where they have participated in educational programs at area schools to educate about the dangers of illicit drugs, and they are currently trying to create a solution to help prevent any more kids dying from overdoses as there has been far too many in our area. They have also been at area events providing health education to youth, such as a Teen Conference held last month, with condom and health information material giveaways and lots of questions answered. Much more was discussed because they do so many important and interesting things, but this was what my furious note-taking was able to get down.
